Haven’t got round to reading all the posts i wrote whilst I was India and make a big scrap book. I know they’ll just make me a) miss new Delhi a huge ammount and b) cringe at what I wrote. Hahaa. Oh well, town tonight! :D
after a bike ride down the Wirral way and must have ingested about 10 of the little buggars and got covered head to toe in greenflies and caterpillars. But it’s alright because my cat ate all the ones I was wearing when I got home. I love my cat. That is all. :D
This man took 20 mins to fix my shoe and charged me like 30p for it, it’s now in brand new condition. England is such a rip off country.
This was when I went to Jami masjid, the largest mosque in India and they made me wear this modesty cloak. I was on my own at first I couldn’t see anyone else wearing one so I got really paranoid everyone thought that I was wearing this little number out of choice as I got a few chuckles as I walked past. Dunno why, I think I look quite dashing! Still managed to get my arse groped in it by a charming young Indian guy so it can’t be so bad! Haha
about being back home, and the thing I’m probably missing the most is having no structure to my day. For the past 8 weeks I’ve always had every second of each day planned, and now I’m back at home i don’t really know what to do with myself! I’ve got a whole afternoon now with no plans it feels strangeee!
oh well off to new york tomorrow so i guess that solves that problem! :D Is it sad if I compile a play list containing songs about New York and listen to them on the plane? yeaaa, i guess it is a bit.
Today was my last day in Fortis hospital which I spent in neurology which sounds alot cooler than it was as there was barely any patients. The neurologist was very nice though, an extremely hairy man with a squeaky voice but he was very informative. Then I saw a total thyholdectomy (I think) which was really cool, this woman thyroid was the size of a tennis ball, more than 20 times what it should be. She’d left it fo 20 years without going fo any treatment and It was only up untill the point where this thing was blocking her trachea so she couldn’t breathe that she decided to go to hospital! Then I had my exit interview with Kathryn. She spent about 20 minutes looking for a pen whilst saying gosh you must think I’m so unorganised. I felt like saying yes I’ve thought that since the day I met you dear. One of her final questions was ‘is there anything that I, as a local coordinator could have done better?’ LOL, doing anything would have been nice! I dunno what her salary is like but she’s done buggar all apart from the bare minimum for us all since we got here!
In urology today but it ended up being more general surgery as I’ve been in OT all day. So I’ve seen lots of old peoples genitals today lucky meee! But no it has been a really interesting day, I’ve seen lots of endoscopes and a gall bladder being removed due to loads of pea sized gall stones in it which I had a good prod at with a pair of scissors! An I’ve seen a kidney stent being removed, a cytoscopy and lots much so it’s been a very interesting day. I also played computerised mini golf with one of the OT nurses which was bizarre but funny.
I feel quite in demand today actually! First of all the weirdo cardiologist found me at lunch and was chatting away. He told me that Dr Awadesh keeps shouting at him because he thinks that he put me off going out with him because of his fat jokes about dr awadesh. This is obviously the case. Before I talked to creepy cardiologist number 2 I was so up for dating an overweight middle aged married father of 2 but after he so called ‘poisoned my mind’ with his fat jokes I’ve thought better of it! Funny times, so after avoiding Dr Awadesh’s calls I quickly slipped out of th hospital and off to select city walk. Select city walk is an amazinggggg but hideously overpriced mall in Delhi and I would love to buy everything in it. Before I’d even entered the mall I was approached by a guy in his twenties who barely reached my shoulder ‘hello ma’am what is your good name? You are looking so sweet today will you go for coffee with me?’ ‘no’ I said ‘I’m busy, I’ve got too much shopping to do’ after that he followed me around the mall for about an hour yet I carried on like he wasn’t there. So after a while he sheepishly came back up to me and gave me his details which I cold heartedly put in the bin once his back was turned. Bitch! I will never understand why short guys approach me, and not even just a little bit shorter than me, guys who are like 5”6 like this guy today was, madness. So after a great deal of looking but not being able to afford anything I go for a drink on the roof terrace of the mall which overlooks the whole complex whilst the sun sets and it’s blaring out cheesy tunes like ‘ain’t no sunshine’ abba and all the other classics, perfection!
I’m approached by another guy who is closer to my height range but a little out of the age range (I’m guessing early 30s) who awkwardly sits by me for a while and says that he would like he and I to have a friendship which is a bizarre question to ask, but heyy. He offers to buy me a coffee and I’m skint and thirsty and meeting Peggy within half an hour so figured its a pretty safe option so I accept his offer. Whilst he is away buying me a coffee another guy approaches me and asks me if i’d like a cigarette. I’ve quit but the temptation is just too much when confronted by a free cigarette so I accept and then this guy sits down next to me and starts another awkward conversation about ‘my good name’ (I’ve no idea why they say good name and not just name) so then the other guy comes back with my coffee and the second guy is still sitting there so it’s a little awkward when the 3 of us are all sitting around this table not saying an awful lot! So then I finish my coffee and my cigarette and casually lose my 2 new friends and meet Peggy.
We went round a great little market which is only open on Wednesdays and sushma’s (my hostess) daughter and he husband had a lovely jewellery stall there which I ended up buying some nice bangles from. I really wanted to buy fruit shaped soap from the mall but it was out of my price range so I called it a day when soap prices were too much for me and headed back to sushma’s house. Good day!
I am sitting in a cafe at fortis hospital watching the news and a new flash comes on the telly. A man has just broken the world record for the amount of watermelons he can crack open by smacking his face on to them. I’ve no idea how many he managed as the TV is on mute. In other news I can hear someone hacking and spitting in the restaurant but I can’t see who’s doing it! Oh India I’m going to miss your strange strange ways.
Today I was meant to start back at fortis hospital. I turned up to discover deepack (who deals with my timetable) was off ill and of course had not sorted out my timetable at all. Prakriti told me I had 2 options: wait in the hospital for 2 hours whilst they sort me out with a program for the day or just come back tomorrow. Delhi is like 35 degrees right now, I did not choose to stay.
I had no guide book or map on me and this free day had just been sprung on me so I felt a bit clueless as what to do with it so a just jumped an auto to the metro. As I was getting out of the metro 2 men thrust these snakes in my face shouting something about rupees and touching this golden pot they were each holding. I jumped out of my bloody skin I swear to god! And then put the money in their pot an ran off. I admired their begging skills actually I think a lot more people would give to beggars if they adopted this method. That’s all India needs, a few more cobras on the streets and bam, poverty solved! Everyone would give money for fear of their lives!
So anyway, I got on the metro and randomly got off at hauz khaus because I felt like I was too quick to judge hauz khaus, I saw it when I’d just arrived on the hoho bus and dismissed it as being a load of balls. So I walked and walked round hauz khas down all the enclaves and through the shops and ended up at wimpy for lunch. Yea that’s right, Im in india and I went to wimpy for lunch. There’s a good reason for this though, it was the only reasonably priced place in the area, the rest of the places to eat looked crap and were a rip off, I figured if I was going to eat crap I didn’t want to pay through the roof for it! I went back to the grandma and daughter tomb and chilled there for a while which was so so perfect and peaceful amoungst the chaos of the roads in new Delhi, it was one of those moments I’ll really miss when I’m back home. It was also nice to just be on my own for a while because as much as I love everyone I’ve met you don’t really get your own space at all on the Holi trip.
After that I went back to DCWA for half an hour in the afternoon! Which was really nice to see all the kids again! They were doing maths though and I was noo help whatsoever! Haha. Then me and peggy went for a fab Oreo milkshake in zaffiro (the ridiculously overpriced place I used to eat at when I was at dcwa purely because I loved to roof terrace) so that brought back some memories and was nice and relaxed and now I’m back home and ready to have my teaaa!
